Detailed Reef Sandals Size Chart
Reef Brazil Sandal Sizes Table

Women's Reef Sandals - Men's Reef Sandals

Reef does not usually offer a sizing chart,
probably due to the
Foot Measurement Problems listed below.

Therefore, this webmaster has attempted to integrate the
Reef Sandals "sandal label information" into the
"Universal Sizing Chart" shown below.

Use this as a guide only.
Columns C, D, E, F and G are just my guesses.
Individual preferences vary greatly.

Column
Relationships

All Columns
Columns A and B are related absolutely by definition.
 A = B + 1 1/2
Columns C and D are related absolutely by definition.
 D in inches = C in centimeters
Columns E and F are related absolutely by definition.
 F = D + 2E
Columns F and G are related absolutely by definition.
 F in inches = G in centimeters
Columns H and I are related absolutely by definition.
 H = I + 1
Columns J, L and M are related absolutely by definition.
     L = N + 19, J = L + 15.5, J = K + 34.5
Columns A and B, and columns J and K are related absolutely by definition.
 N = B - 1.5, L = N + 19

Lack of a Standard

Columns A, B, G, H, K, L, M
There are many "standards" - US, UK, Brazil, Continental, Japan, etc.
These standards do not correlate in a precise way, meaning that
compromises are made when preparing ANY chart.
Some round up, some round down, some truncate.

Scale Conflicts
Shoemaker's vs.
Metric vs. King's

Columns A, B, C and D
US sizes are based on 1/6 inch (0.166") differences
between the next smaller or next larger size (6 sizes per inch).
Unfortunately, only architects and shoemakers use a 1/6" ruler.
We use a ruler graduated in 1/8" increments, or centimeters.
This screws up everything and everybody.

Male - Female
Conversion
Conflicts

Columns A and B, columns H and I
Many times, a woman will want to buy a man's sandal.
Less frequently, a man will want to buy a woman's sandal.
Various charts list the difference between mens' and womens'
 sizes anywhere from 1 half-size to 3 full-sizes difference,
with the most common being 1.5 sizes different,
as shown in columns A and B above.
Note that Reef (columns G and H) uses the "1 full size" equivalence.

Country
Differences

Columns B and I
Some say men's UK sizes are 1 1/2 sizes smaller than the US size (common)
   (columns B and N above).
Some say women's UK sizes are 2 sizes smaller than the US size.
   (columns A and M above).
Some say UK sizes are 1/2 size smaller than the US size.
European charts are ALL OVER the map - kinda like the countries.

Incomplete -
Comparisons Only

Columns C and D missing
Most online charts compare one country's sizes against those of others.
There is no "length measurement" so that size can be determined.
These charts are not helpful if you don't ALREADY KNOW your
 true shoe size.

Inaccurate and
Imprecise

Column D - Length of Foot
Compare any 2 charts - often they do not agree.
 Both can't be right.
When charts DO specify "inches length", they often do not say
whether it is foot length or shoe length - it can be either.
Foot length measured with or without thick sock?
I offer both foot length (column D) and sandal length (column E).

Foot Variation

Column D
On many people, the big toe sticks out the farthest,
and the fit should be measured from here.
A high percentage of people have "Morton's Toe",
in which the second toe sticks out the farthest.
These people should be fit to the second toe.
Those with wide feet should select from wide styles,
 such as the "Smoothy Wide".

Self
Measurement
Errors

Column D
 1. Frequently, the sizing guides that you put your foot on,
are not printed out at 100% scale, which introduces more error.
 2. You may have been given a template for your right foot,
when in fact, your left foot is the bigger of the two.
 3. Holding the pencil perfectly vertical is difficult to do.
 4. There is the "1/2 the thickness of the pencil" error (1/8").

Individual
Preference

Column E
 Different individuals prefer different fits.
What is insufficient to some is excessive to others.
Some prefer the narrow "svelte" look, while others require comfort.
Many women buy the men's styles for added comfort (width),
in addition to having a wider, less-cutting band.

Sandals - Shoes
Fundamental
Difference

Column F and G
Note that with SHOES, you are only concerned with the
INSIDE size (room for your foot plus sock),
but with SANDALS, you are only concerned with the
OUTSIDE size (so your foot doesn't hang over the ends).

Style Variation

Column F and G
Each Reef Sandal style has a particular "style footprint",
which has an associated "overhang", both length-wise and width-wise.
This overhang varies UP TO 3 SIZES between different styles,
which have different footbed shapes (column E).

Non-Linearity

Columns E, F, G, H and I
 Columns E, F, G, H and I are non-linear.

European

Column J
European refers primarily to France and Germany.

Some Advice

Many individuals buy the next larger size anyway,
 just for comfort.
If in doubt, selecting the next larger size is usually
 a good decision.

What a mind-boggling can of worms - feet and sandals.

The webmaster has lost it. This is WAY overboard.
